Led by our own Sierra Phillips. Here are the details:
Wednesday, Feb. 29th from 11- 2 (You don’t need to be there the whole time- just stop by in between classes to hear some speakers and register to vote!)
The main goal of this campaign is to register students to vote and mobilize their voice. We also are trying to encourage students to get involved in Tacoma– so even if you are already registered stop by to get involved!
- The statistics show that citizens aged 18 to 25 are showing up to the polls less and less. This means that politicians are not discussing what is important to our age group in their campaigns, and we as young adults are not involved in the creation of our future. This is an endless cycle- we can take the first step to break it by registering to vote!
- It is said that Puget Sound students live in a “bubble” here on campus. It is important to get students integrated into the Tacoma and Washington community as well. We will have information for students regarding registering to vote in Washington as well as a variety of options about how you can get more involved in local politics.
Come out, register to vote, and learn more about how YOU can get involved in the community and shape your future.
** There will be tabling in the SUB this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 11am-1pm to register new voters as well!**
At the event we will be hearing from professors Emelie Peine (currently scheduling slot time) and Richard Anderson-Connolly (1:30) as well as Dean Mike Segawa (12:30) and Chaplain Dave Wright (12) and more! Can’t wait to see you there!
