The University of Puget Sound’s Department of Comparative Sociology is pleased to announce that it will henceforth be known as the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The department has long comprised a thriving combination of sociologists and anthropologists, and we, the faculty members, feel that the new name offers a better representation of these disciplines in which we have expertise. Further, we believe that the new name will better serve our students, particularly those seeking to continue their studies in Anthropology or other related fields. We also recognize that most sociology and anthropology is already “comparative” in nature. Incidentally, this should dispel any misconceptions that the University of Puget Sound “doesn’t offer Anthropology.” Of course, as the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, we will continue to offer our students the very best in the sociological and anthropological traditions.
